Work locations may vary. Frequent or constant travel is required from the employee.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions using computer equipment, GPS equipment or other navigation devices to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
- Address customers’ complaints or concerns.
- Coach colleagues on new methods or work techniques.
- Demonstrate professionalism in customer service.
- Drive as part of a two-person team or convoy.
- Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials.
- Oversee the condition of the vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment.
- Perform brake adjustments.
- Perform emergency roadside repairs.
- Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspections and oversee all aspects of the vehicle.
- Perform preventive maintenance.
- Receive and relay information to central dispatch.
- Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption.
- Perform tarping and ensure the safety and security of cargo.
